The emergence of COVID-19 has impacted nearly every aspect of our lives, including how we travel and enjoy vacations. And if you’re like most people, you may be itching for a long-overdue getaway. The good news is many coronavirus-related travel restrictions are loosening, but there are still a few important things to keep in mind before you start browsing vacation rentals and packing your bags.
First and foremost, the COVID-19 crisis is a rapidly evolving situation—travel guidelines in place today may look different in a few months. Nevertheless, here’s what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has to say as of April 2021:
Travelers who are fully vaccinated with an FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine can enjoy travel within the United States without needing to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test (unless their specific destination requires it—make sure you double check). Travelers are considered to be “fully vaccinated” two weeks after the second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine. It’s still important to wear a mask in all public places and to follow social distancing measures.

Unvaccinated people should avoid traveling internationally at this time. However, if traveling is necessary, the CDC recommends that you:

An urgent care clinic is a convenient place to turn if you need walk-in care for an acute, non-life-threatening illness or injury. Unlike primary care practices that require appointments and are often booked for days in advance, urgent care clinics treat patients on a walk-in basis and are often open during extended hours. They’re also a much more sensible and affordable alternative to bustling emergency rooms in non-life-threatening scenarios.
Here are a few examples of health concerns that can be treated at an urgent care clinic:
Many people face this question on a daily basis. As a general rule of thumb, individuals who fear loss of life, limb, or vision should promptly call 911 or go to the nearest ER. It’s also important to seek emergency care if you or someone around you experiences any of the following:
So, you’ve woken up with a nasty cold and aren’t sure where to seek care. Your main options are the local urgent care clinic and your primary care doctor’s office, but which choice is more affordable?
Despite urgent care’s reputation for being more expensive than primary care, the costs of these services are usually quite similar, especially for individuals with insurance. Costs will vary by provider, though, so you may want to check what urgent care clinics and primary care centers accept your insurance before your visit.
